Democrat Bob Brooks is projected to defeat incumbent GOP Rep. Ryan Mackenzie to flip Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, according to The Hill’s partner Decision Desk HQ.

With 19 percent of precincts reporting, Brooks is leading 65 percent to 34.9 percent.

Brooks ousted Mackenzie after only one term in the House and will flip the district from Republican to Democrat.

The Democrat had spent 20 years as a firefighter in Bethlehem and also runs Brooks Lawn Care, a family-operated snow removal business that he started in 2013. He retired from his firefighter role last year.

Brooks received endorsements from top Democrats in the Keystone State including Gov. Josh Shapiro, Lt. Gov. Austin Davis and Reps. Chris Deluzio, Madeleine Dean and Chrissy Houlahan.

Over his two decades as a firefighter, he worked to negotiate better contracts, affordable healthcare and safer working conditions.

Brooks has focused his campaign on raising minimum wage, building out healthcare, securing the border and protecting the community from data centers.
