Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) on Thursday said he sees “presidential potential” in Vice President Vance but raised concerns about “certain dangers” in his personality.

“I see presidential potential with you,” Giuliani said, directly addressing Vance during a livestream on his YouTube channel. “I also see certain dangers in your personality, which make you a dangerous possibility as president.”

“To be president, you have to have the flexibility of mind, not to have slogans dominate your thinking,” Giuliani said in response to Vance’s remarks following the midterm results. “That’s the feeling I got from you yesterday when you said that the election was determined by the war.”

He added “it wasn’t mainly, mostly determined by the war. The war was a sub part.”

Vance in a lengthy post online on Wednesday pinned the blame for the GOP’s losses of the House and Senate majorities on the Iran war.

“The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night,” Vance wrote. “If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest.”

The ongoing Middle East conflict was a concern for voters leading up to Election Day. In a recent Gallup poll , released before the midterms, roughly 47 percent of voters said the war would be an “extremely” important issue when casting their vote while 30 percent said it would be “very” important.

Giuliani said it was the “economy” that was the deciding factor in the elections. The same Gallup survey found half of the respondents marked the economy as an extremely important factor in casting their ballots.

Vance, who has faced criticism from some on the right for his Wednesday statement, is seen as the front-runner for the GOP White House nomination in 2028. Many observers also think his presidential aspirations have taken a hit from the midterm defeats, which were seen as a repudiation of the Trump White House.

Last month, the vice president said if he runs for president in 2028, President Trump would endorse him . Asked about those comments, Trump did not say if he would endorse Vance , noting, “I don’t think we’ve ever talked about it,” before adding “he’s a very talented person and he’s a very good person.”
