Former Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) called the midterm elections a "s‑‑‑ show" for Republicans following major GOP losses in key Senate and House races.
"Republicans literally squandered their majority. Congratulations," he told TMZ DC's Jacob Wasserman. "We have people losing seats in states that we never thought we'd see, like Ann Wagner lost Missouri. Not that I'm going to cry over that. I might celebrate and go drink some champagne right now. But the point I'm trying to make is, it's a disaster. It's a f‑‑‑ing disaster. It's a full f‑‑‑ing disaster."
"Imagine if it rained knives for a month and then that turned into a wave. That's what happened tonight. Ashley Hinson can't win Iowa. It's just a s‑‑‑ show," the former lawmaker expressed, adding that the results "absolutely scares the s‑‑‑ out of" him "for what happens next."
Santos was referencing Democrat Josh Turek's defeat of Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) in Iowa's competitive Senate election. The state has been considered a Republican stronghold, but Hinson's loss — alongside the GOP's defeat in the state's gubernatorial election — has swung it to the Democratic Party.
In Texas, James Talarico became the first member of the Democratic Party to win a Texas Senate seat in decades, defeating state Attorney General Ken Paxton (R). Though Republicans held on to seats in Florida, Democrats picked up other key seats in Michigan and Kansas.
In the interview, Santos also withdrew his pitch to become the next White House press secretary, citing Tuesday's election results.
"I love the president, but no, I'm good," he said. "Today was a bad night. Everybody has bad nights, and I had a notoriously bad night that everybody saw."
When asked if he had any advice for incoming congressional members, Santos echoed a post from Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.): "Lawyer up."
Garcia is also the incoming chair for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
