Kacey Musgraves fires back after Noem jab over Talarico

Kacey Musgraves is hitting back at Kristi Noem after the former Homeland Security secretary took a music-related political dig at her.

In a Monday post on social media, Noem voiced support for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican’s Senate bid against Democrat James Talarico.

Noem knocked Musgraves after Talarico attended one of the “Dry Spell” singer’s concerts over the weekend and shared photos of himself smiling alongside the country music performer.

“I’ll take @ellalangleymsic over Kacey Musgraves any day,” Noem said, tagging singer Ella Langley, whose song “Choosin’ Texas” has dominated the music charts for months.

“And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico,” the former South Dakota governor added.

In a post to her more than 950,000 followers on the social platform X, Musgraves on Monday shot back.

“I don’t think you have a dog in this fight,” Musgraves said, “but if you did you would have shot it.”

The jab appeared to reference an anecdote Noem detailed in her 2024 book, “No Going Back,” in which she said she once took her 14-month-old dog — a German wirehaired pointer named Cricket — to a gravel pit on her property and shot it.

Noem, who was fired as Homeland Security secretary by President Trump in March, later described the dog as “extremely dangerous.”

In addition to Musgraves’s canine-focused retort, the 27-year-old Langley also appeared to untag herself from Noem’s post.
