Republican nominee Kurt Alme is projected to win Montana’s Senate election, according to Decision Desk HQ.

The former U.S. attorney for the District of Montana will replace retiring Sen. Steve Daines (R), after the two-term senator announced his departure from Congress minutes before the filing deadline in March.

Daines and President Trump endorsed the Republican nominee in the state’s GOP primary earlier this year, which Alme easily won .

The GOP candidate defeated Democratic challenger and retired Air Force Lt. Col. Alani Bankhead, independent candidate Seth Bodnar and Libertarian candidate Kyle Austin.

The Cook Political Report rated the race as solidly favoring Republicans, with Bodnar and Bankhead trailing behind Alme in independent polling leading up to Election Day.

The Republican campaigned on his record serving as Montana’s top federal prosecutor under Trump from 2017 to 2020 and then again from 2025 to 2026. Alme stepped down from this role in March 2026 to launch his Senate bid.

Alme appeared alongside the president at an Oct. 14 rally in Kalispell, Mont.

“In 20 days from now, the people of Montana are going to defeat radical Democrat Alani Bankhead … and elect a fantastic man, a fantastic guy that I know very well, Kurt Alme, to the United States Senate,” Trump told rallygoers, according to C-SPAN footage from the event.

“I actually got him put in office twice — not once, twice,” the president continued. “He was so good, I said let’s do it again, Kurt.”
