New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) criticized rapper Nicki Minaj on Wednesday, saying President Trump’s rallies were “poisoning” the artist’s mind.
“Maybe she oughta get outside and get offline a little more,” Hochul told reporters . “And stop going to Trump rallies, it’s kinda poisoning your mind.”
The Empire State governor was responding to a post by Minaj from Wednesday afternoon where she called Hochul an “evil woman.”
“The Democratic Party should forfeit her seat because even if she wins, she will be of great consequence to them,” Minaj – who called herself Trump’s “ No. 1 fan ” – wrote on social platform X .
“Downward spiral for her. She will not escape God’s wrath. She did not denounce evil when she had the chance,” she concluded.
In 2020, Minaj said she would not “jump on the Donald Trump bandwagon,” but in recent years she’s become a vocal supporter of the president and the GOP. Speaking at a recent Michigan campaign rally, Minaj pledged her support for Trump, saying, “if you run again, I will support you again.”
She has also been floated as a possible replacement for former White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia by White House communications director Steven Cheung. It’s unclear how serious Cheung is about hiring Minaj as one of the administration’s top officials.
During her various appearances with administration officials, Minaj has echoed Trump’s false claims regarding the 2020 election, backed the president after he claimed that Christians in Nigeria were persecuted and promoted the debut of Trump accounts .
Hochul’s gubernatorial opponent Bruce Blakeman (R) also chimed in , telling Minaj on social media, “Nicki, I’ve got the U-Haul ready. It’s time to fire the worst governor in America.”
Blakeman is currently trailing Hochul, according to recent Siena University polling . The poll found Hochul now manages a 14-point lead compared to leading Blakeman by 9-points in September.
Siena University noted that 68 percent of respondents believed Hochul would win the election. Forty percent of Republican respondents expressed they believed the New York governor would win reelection.
