Bo French, the GOP nominee running for Texas railroad commissioner, is projected to lose his race to Democrat Jon Rosenthal, according to Decision Desk HQ .
The Republican lost support from several prominent Republicans in his state after he posted on social media about University of Texas at Austin students of South Asian descent.
In a September social media post , the candidate reshared an image of South Asian students attending a Texas football game.
“I heard UT graduation this year looked like this. I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined,” French wrote in the post’s caption.
Outgoing Texas Sen. John Cornyn (R) announced in September he would not cast a vote for French in this race, warning that French could “drag the whole ticket down because of his racist comments.”
Karl Rove, who served as a top political adviser for former President George W. Bush, also stated he would not support French and said he would vote for Rosenthal instead .
Rosenthal is a mechanical engineer and a four-term member of the Texas House.
French’s loss follows a shocking upset for Republicans in the Texas Senate race, in which Democratic state Rep. James Talarico flipped the seat for his party.
