Harris endorses Pappas for New Hampshire Senate

Former Vice President Kamala Harris endorsed Rep. Chris Pappas (D) in the New Hampshire Senate race on Monday, marking the latest race in which the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate is lending her support ahead of November.

“@KamalaHarris has stood tall for democracy and is committed to making this country fairer and freer for all. She knows the stakes couldn’t be higher here in New Hampshire, and I’m proud to have her on Team Pappas,” Pappas wrote in a post on the social platform X.

The former vice president has weighed in on a handful of Senate and House races this midterm cycle, including supporting Sen. Jon Ossoff (D) in Georgia and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan.

While some members of the party have welcomed her support, others including Senate candidates Mary Peltola (D-Alaska) and Josh Turek (D-Iowa) as well as Iowa gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand have opted to keep Harris at arm’s length — which members of the party see as more of a commentary about the politics of red-leaning states than it is of Harris specifically.

Harris, meanwhile, narrowly won the Granite State in 2024 by close to 3 percentage points.

She’s also backed Democratic Senate candidates Roy Cooper in North Carolina, James Talarico in Texas and Troy Jackson in Maine, though the three have said little publicly about it.

Harris, who’s considering a 2028 White House bid, is not the only possible presidential hopeful weighing in on midterm races. Other top Democrats such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear are also wading into elections ahead of November.
