House GOP campaign arm distributes more than 2,000 tickets for midterm convention in Texas

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) distributed more than 2,000 tickets for next week’s midterm convention in Texas, a source familiar with the event told The Hill on Wednesday.

The NRCC said around 100 members and candidates were confirmed, though Politico reported on Wednesday that 45 out of 70 Republican candidates and members who were asked said they were not attending the gathering or were still considering whether they would go.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) told Politico that the suggested minimum attendee donation to attend the convention was $25,000.

The source familiar noted the $25,000 suggested donation is cheaper than past conventions.

About 20,000 people are expected to attend, according to John Hiller, White House aide and the CEO of the convention’s organizing board.

The gathering is meant to galvanize the Republican base ahead of the midterms as the party faces historical headwinds and low approval ratings for President Trump.

Trump will appear for both nights of the gathering on Sept. 9 and 10 and deliver remarks on the final night. Vice President Vance will address attendees on the first night of the convention.

According to guidance released by the Republican National Committee, both nights of the convention will feature a total of 109 items and speakers.
