Jewish Democrats divided in Michigan; Can House prevent shutdown?

Jewish Democrats in Michigan are divided over their Senate nominee, Abdul El-Sayed. Hasan Piker is an issue, and some Democrats are pressing El-Sayed to drop ties to the left-wing streamer, who has made a number of controversial remarks about Israel.

Separately, the House returns from its August recess this week to take up legislation that would fund the government through the beginning of December. It’s expected that the stopgap measure will be approved, but will there be last-minute hurdles?

It’s also part of a potentially busy first week back for the House, which is also set to vote on a measure decrying socialism.
