New York State Assembly member Micah Lasher (D) will win the open Manhattan-based seat to succeed longtime Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), Decision Desk HQ has projected.
Lasher defeated Republican Caroline Shinkle, an attorney, in New York’s 12th District, a win that came as no surprise in a solidly blue area. He worked in New York politics for years before he was elected to the state Assembly in 2024.
The seat became open after Nadler, who has served in the House for more than 30 years, announced he would not run for reelection.
Lasher prevailed in a crowded Democratic primary against fellow state Assembly member Alex Bores and two high-profile figures — Jack Schlossberg and George Conway.
Among Lasher’s supporters in the primary included Nadler himself. Lasher previously served as an aide to the congressman.
