Michael Alfonso (R), the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, is projected to win Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ.

The 26-year-old is set to be the youngest member of Congress, succeeding outgoing Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), who placed a gubernatorial bid this midterm cycle.

Alfonso faced off against Fred Clark, a former Democratic state representative. The GOP candidate was bolstered by endorsements from President Trump and Duffy.

The Republican led his challenger by almost 11 percentage points — 55.3 to 44.7 percent — with 57 percent of the vote reported by DDHQ as of 10:25 p.m. Tuesday.

The Transportation secretary praised his son-in-law’s past experience working in construction in the district.

“I think it’d be great to have someone who knows how to put on a pair of jeans and a pair of boots and a hard hat and work his butt off 12 hours a day,” Duffy said in an August interview on NewsNation’s “Morning in America.”

The president called Alfonso a “MAGA warrior” and a “young ‘STAR” in May.

Alfonso ran his campaign close to Trump. He said on social media that receiving the president’s endorsement was the “greatest honor.” His campaign focused on affordability and personal freedoms, while emphasizing the need for a new generation of Republican leaders.

“We need to have young Republicans who can actually go out and message to these young people and talk about the issues they care about — affordability, owning homes, raising families,” Alfonso told NewsNation in the same interview as his father-in-law. “That’s what I’m doing.”

Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District is made up of northwestern and central parts of the state. It leans red.
