FBI searches California home tied to Eric Swalwell probe

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reportedly searched a California home tied to its current investigation into former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.).

The Beverly Hills mansion, owned by a donor of Swalwell’s, was searched as part of the probe into the former lawmaker, CNN reported , citing two people familiar with the investigation.

“Early this morning the FBI conducted an operation in the Los Angeles region related to an ongoing criminal investigation. We have no further comment,” the FBI told The Hill on Tuesday.

Swalwell resigned from Congress and terminated his bid for California’s open gubernatorial seat amid allegations of sexual assault and misconduct.

The San Francisco Chronicle published accusations from a former aide that Swalwell sexually assaulted her on two occasions. CNN similarly went live with allegations from three other women making separate accusations of sexual misconduct.

Though Swalwell denied the allegations, a number of notable Democrats dropped their support for his gubernatorial bid, forcing him to quit the race.

Following his resignation from the House, the Department of Justice, along with district attorneys for Los Angeles and Manhattan, launched individual probes into the allegations.

Federal agents have already seized electronics from Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport in August before raiding his Washington, D.C., home the following day as part of the ongoing probe into his sexual assault allegations.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman previously told The Hill that his office’s Sex Crimes Division is working closely with law enforcement partners “as this investigation unfolds.”

Swalwell is also under investigation by other California state officials for allegations he improperly used campaign finances to pay legal expenses to Los Angeles attorney Sara Azari.
