Vance to give White House’s first press briefing in over 40 days

Vice President Vance will host the first White House press briefing since July on Thursday, the White House Press Office announced.

“Vice President @JDVance will take the podium tomorrow at 1:00 PM,” the press office wrote Wednesday on social platform X.

Former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt wrapped up her final day in the role last week. Leavitt will transition to working with President Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC, a role from which she will continue to advise the president.

Leavitt last briefed the press on July 23 , after returning from two-and-a-half months of maternity leave . The 28-year-old gave birth to her second child with husband Nicholas Riccio in May.

During Leavitt’s maternity leave, a rotating cast of administration officials took the podium in her place — including Vance , Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Vance and Rubio are leading the way in early polling of 2028 GOP presential contenders, although neither have said whether they will run.

Vance last briefed reporters on June 18, shortly after the Trump administration reached a preliminary deal with Iranian officials to halt hostilities.

But the U.S. and Iranian militaries repeatedly violated the 60-day ceasefire outlined by the deal, with the agreement expiring last month without any sign of a lasting peace .

In recent months, the vice president has helmed a task force focused on identifying fraud within social services programs in Democratic-led states.

As for Leavitt’s full-time replacement , Trump has given no indication he is in a rush to choose one. Leavitt also said on her final day as press secretary that the president is “his own best spokesperson.”

Potential contenders for the gig include CNN commentator Scott Jennings and former U.S. Attorney for the district of New Jersey Alina Habba.

“I have never seen so many job applications in my life,” Trump told reporters last month.
