Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh will deliver a pivotal speech Friday at the central bank’s annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
The remarks come as the Fed grapples with persistent inflation and an increasingly jittery bond market. The 30-year Treasury yield hit a 19-year high last week before briefly falling after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans to double the maximum amount of long-term debt the government can buy back.
The Fed’s preferred inflation gauge this week also showed prices rising 3.7 percent over the past year, while the economy shed 23,000 jobs last month.
Friday’s appearance will also put Warsh’s communication strategy under the microscope. Since taking over from former Chair Jerome Powell, Warsh has largely avoided signaling the bank’s next moves.
President Trump, meanwhile, has continued to push for lower interest rates, though the Fed is widely expected to keep rates steady at its September meeting.
Warsh’s speech is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
