Tiger Woods pleads no contest to reckless driving charge, gets license suspended for 5 years

( NewsNation ) – Tiger Woods attended a hearing on Wednesday morning to plead no-contest to a reckless driving charge stemming from a rollover crash in Florida earlier this year. The deal stipulates Woods will have his license suspended for five years and pay $1,500 in fines.

Woods initially pleaded not guilty to careless driving and DUI damage to property or persons.

On March 27, Woods’ Land Rover struck a White Ford, causing the Rover to lose control and flip on the driver’s side, according to an incident report from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. The truck was making a right turn when Woods moved into the oncoming traffic lane, striking the vehicle.

Woods told officers at the scene the crash had occurred while he was looking at his phone and changing the radio, and he did not notice the vehicle in front of him slow down. The crash caused $5,000 in damage to the truck, according to the report.

Woods exited the vehicle by climbing out the passenger side. Neither driver sustained injuries from the crash. Woods was reported to be exhibiting several signs of impairment , including slow movements and glassy eyes, and was sweating profusely. Officers noted he was very alert during the investigation.

Woods agreed to a breathalyzer test, which showed no signs of alcohol, but refused a urine test. Officers discovered two hydrocodone pills in his pocket. Woods told officers he’d taken prescription medication and denied taking illegal substances.
