Ukraine launched a massive overnight attack against Russia on Sunday, sending over 1,000 drones toward St. Petersburg, one of the largest aerial strikes Kyiv has initiated since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war.
The attacks struck an oil export terminal, creating a massive blaze of fires. One person was killed and five were wounded, per the Associated Press .
Last week, President Trump claimed there was an energy ceasefire between the two countries without offering more details. Russia struck a power plant in Kharkiv later that day, and Ukraine confirmed that it resumed its attacks on Moscow’s oil on Thursday.
Russian President Volodymyr Zelensky told NBC News’s Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” Sunday morning that if the United States supports Russian President Vladimir Putin, “It’s unbelievable, it’s a tragedy.”
“It’s a historic mistake. If United States officially takes the side of Russia, of course we will not prevail and we will not be able to stand,” he added.
Meanwhile, Trump is in Mar-a-Lago on Sunday after attending a Saturday night MAGA Inc. dinner. He is set to return to Washington, D.C.
