A voting booth is seen at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in Washington, D.C., during the primary on June 16, 2026.

A new poll released on Tuesday found that 46 percent of likely voters believe all the votes in the midterms will be counted accurately, underscoring how voter faith in elections has taken a hit.

An exclusive NewsNation/Decision Desk HQ ( DDHQ ) poll, conducted by AI research platform TrueDot.ai, found 27 percent of respondents said they were only concerned about correctly counting mail-in ballots, while 14 percent said they believed Republicans would change the vote count. Another 13 percent said they believed Democrats would change the vote count.

Respondents were then asked if the issue of whether or not they believed all the votes would be counted accurately impacted their likelihood to vote. Forty-six percent left the question blank, though 29 percent said it had no impact, and 22 percent said it did and that they needed to vote to overwhelm the fraud.

Roughly 3 percent of respondents said that concern demoralized them and made them less likely to cast a ballot.

“Republicans have shown in recent years more doubt about election results, and obviously a lot of this has to do with the 2020 election and President Trump’s rhetoric surrounding it,” DDHQ chief elections analyst Geoffrey Skelley said.

Given that Trump is back in office, some Democrats are not necessarily inclined “to trust that results will be counted fairly as well,” he added.

The NewsNation/DDHQ poll was conducted by TrueDot.ai from Oct. 5 to 9 with 974 likely 2026 national voters. The margin of error for the full survey is 3.2 percentage points.

The full results of the poll will be discussed on “Decision Desk 2026 Have Your Say: A NewsNation Town Hall” hosted by Chris Cuomo on Tuesday night on NewsNation.

Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, broadcaster and commentator Stephen A. Smith and former Trump strategist Steve Bannon will discuss what they see in the numbers during the town hall.
