House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will speak with reporters Monday afternoon as lawmakers return from their August recess for a week of key votes , including a stopgap spending bill to avert a government shutdown.

His remarks come less than two months before the midterm elections, with Democrats seeking to retake the House and after the Democratic leader recently faced backlash over a private meeting with White House envoy Jared Kushner.
