Donna Miller (D) will succeed Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.) in the race for Illinois’s 2nd Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ has projected .
Miller is a Cook County commissioner and previously served as a board chair for Planned Parenthood of Illinois, as well as the vice president of Illinois Democratic Women. She is making a return to Capitol Hill with her victory, having done a prior stint as a congressional intern.
In March, Miller won the Democratic primary for the 2nd Congressional District, beating a crowded field for the safely blue seat in the Chicago area. She received notable backing from groups linked with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) dropped her endorsement of the Cook County commissioner in February, saying she would not back a candidate with funding from “outside interests.”
Within the last few years, especially in the wake of Israel’s war in Gaza, debates have heated up in left-leaning circles about Israeli influence in American politics and military aid to the country. Some have even labeled Israel’s actions in Gaza as “genocide.”
Miller resides in Lynwood, Ill., and is married to former Illinois state Rep. David Miller (D). She has two adult sons.
