Ty Cobb: White House ‘turning into some combination of a whorehouse and Las Vegas’

Former White House lawyer Ty Cobb tore into President Trump’s White House ballroom project on Monday, saying the historic building is turning into a “combination of a whorehouse and Las Vegas.”

Cobb, who served in the White House during Trump’s first term, made the comment hours after the Supreme Court cleared the way for construction to continue on the planned ballroom.

“It certainly touched me because, as somebody who had spent a lot of time in the White House and in or about the grounds, you know, it was a beautiful setting and a historic setting,” Cobb said on CNN’s “OutFront.”

“It’s turning into some combination of a whorehouse and Las Vegas at this stage of the game with all the golden paving of it,” he continued. “It’s tragic what’s going on. But sadly, it’s going to continue, at least for the time being.”

In a 5-4 ruling on Monday, the Supreme Court halted a lower court ruling that blocked construction until Congress made additional approvals.

Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the court’s three liberals in opposing the decision, while five of the court’s conservative justices sided with the president.

“The White House is not just any building,” Roberts wrote in his dissent, adding that its “symbolism and history are wrapped up in its architecture.”

The five other conservative justices, three of which were appointed by Trump, ruled that the National Trust for Historic Preservation likely lacked standing to challenge the project.

The ruling does not settle whether Trump has the legal authority to build the ballroom, and the case could eventually return to the Supreme Court.

Trump celebrated Monday’s ruling, writing on Truth Social that the project is “under budget and ahead of schedule” and predicting the ballroom and accompanying military complex would be something “the entire Country is very proud of.”

“We are living in the Golden Age of America, and this Building will be one of the Greatest ever constructed in Washington, D.C.,” he wrote.

Trump demolished the East Wing last fall to make way for the 90,000-square-foot ballroom and has taken a hands-on role in the project.
