‘JD Vance is a dirtbag’: Maine Senate nominee responds to vice president on ICE shooting death

Maine Democratic Senate nominee Troy Jackson is blasting Vice President Vance for going after members of his party over their response to a federal immigration officer fatally shooting a man in Maine earlier this summer.

“JD Vance is a dirtbag. There’s a young man that had a Social Security number, he had a job. I mean, he had a life, he had a family,” Jackson said in a video he posted to social media .

During a rally Monday in Brewer, Maine , Vance noted the Trump administration is still investigating Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer David Brouillette fatally shooting 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a native of Colombia living in the U.S.

But the vice president said Democratic lawmakers voicing concerns about the shooting, which occurred on July 13, appear “far more worried about a shooting involving an illegal alien than they are about the fact that tens of thousands of Mainers died from fentanyl overdoses by that poison brought into our community.”

Vance added, “And so my message to the Democrats who are so worried about that situation is to say: Have a little bit of perspective.

“We can absolutely investigate every shooting, and we will, but we can also secure our border and ensure that that poison stops coming into our country. And that is our priority, and that’s our emphasis.”

Jackson, though, remarked that the vice president ought to “have some damn perspective of his own.”

The Senate hopeful continued, “I mean, you don’t even know what the hell’s going on,” referring to Vance.

“You got a rogue agency that’s going around, pulling people out of their homes,” he said, referencing ICE. Jackson later said Vance did not “give a s‑‑‑” about Durán Guerrero.

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.

Jackson’s opponent , GOP Sen. Susan Collins, joined fellow Maine Sen. Angus King (I) in calling for an independent probe into the shooting last month.

But in his video, Jackson questioned whether Collins agreed with Vance’s position on the shooting.

“I’ll you what, concerns and all that does nothing for all of us, does nothing for that family and I’m sick of your concerns,” Jackson said of Collins.

Officials from the Homeland Security Department have argued the ICE officer shot Durán Guerrero, who was not the target of the operation and was allegedly attempting to leave the premises in his car, out of fear for public safety .
