President Trump on Sunday blasted Fox News for giving too much airtime to Democratic candidates ahead of the midterm elections, arguing that the network’s coverage was bringing too much attention to Republican opponents that could hurt them in tight races.
“FoxNews is spending far too much time putting on the OPPONENTS of Republican Party Candidates, people that love our Country, and have Great Policies and Ideas,” Trump wrote on Truth Social . “These American Patriots are being absolutely “blurred out” by the Media, and Fox is doing little to help. That’s the only reason this Race is close, if it is indeed close.”
Fox News has invited various Democrats onto its programs for interviews, including Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, Kentucky Senate candidate Charles Booker who is running to succeed retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and Democratic gubernatorial nominee Rob Sand.
Trump has long criticized the media for its coverage of Republicans, including Fox News. Last week, he accused the conservative-leaning outlet of being too kind to Democratic candidates on its shows in order to be what he has previously described as “politically correct.”
His latest critique of Fox News came hours after Trump called into Fox Business host Larry Kudlow’s program, where his former White House economic adviser praised his campaign efforts leading up to the midterm elections.
“You’ve been relentless! Your campaigning, it’s Herculean. You’re turning the tide. You’re getting voters out. You’re raising enthusiasm,” Kudlow said.
“I have worked very hard,” Trump said. “I’ve done 14 rallies in nine days and it’s a lot.”
Trump has been traveling across the country in recent weeks to rally support for Republican candidates as the party fights to hold onto its House and Senate majorities in November. Republicans are facing a challenging midterm season amid an unpopular Iran war, rising gas prices and a president who hit a record low approval rating.
