President Trump’s overall approval rating hit a record low for either of his terms, according to a new Fox News survey amid growing voter dissatisfaction with his handling of key issues.
The Fox News poll found 36 percent of respondents approved of Trump’s overall handling of the presidency, while 64 percent disapproved.
The decline, Fox News noted, was most notable among likely voters aged 45 and under, people with an annual household income below $50,000, non-White voters and people without a college degree.
Among Republican respondents, 76 percent approved of Trump and 23 percent disapproved, whereas 98 of Democratic respondents disapproved of Trump and 2 percent approved. Meanwhile, 78 percent of independent respondents disapproved of Trump and 22 percent approved.
The poll also reported only 22 percent approved of Trump’s handling of inflation, compared to 36 percent reported in a survey from last summer.
Disapproval of the president on other issues included 70 percent disapproval of his handling of the economy, 69 percent on tariff-related issues, 64 percent on foreign policy and 56 percent on immigration.
Trump’s handling of border security was rated highest among key issues, as 50 percent approved and 50 percent disapproved.
The president’s reelection campaign in 2024 focused on lowering prices for voters. However, the war with Iran has resulted in oil price spikes that have translated to higher energy costs nationwide.
Regular gas in the U.S. costs about $4.33 per gallon as of Wednesday, $1.25 higher than a year ago, according to data from AAA .
Trump initially predicted the war would last for a few weeks but has struggled to find an off-ramp despite blows to his approval rating and the GOP. He recently stated the conflict would end following the 2026 midterm elections but did not provide details on how that will happen.
The president acknowledged “ it’s possible ” the Iran war could cost him the November elections. However, he has also brushed aside concern about rising costs, saying while on his midterm blitz in September that hiked gas prices were a “very inexpensive price to pay for what we’ve done.”
“But that’s going to come tumbling down,” he added, referring to gas prices. “That’s going to be like rocket ships in reverse.”
The Fox News poll was conducted Oct 9 -12 among 1,202 registered voters. The margin of error was 2.5 percentage points.
