Trump says he’s ‘happy’ Harry and Meghan left US for Britain

President Trump is weighing in on Prince Harry and Meghan’s move from California back to Britain, saying he’s “happy about it.”

“I was not a fan,” Trump said when asked by a reporter Wednesday in the Oval Office about the couple, who recently decamped to Britain after living in the Golden State for six years.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in the United Kingdom late last month, according to multiple media outlets, following reports of their move with their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lillibet, out of the U.S.

Harry, 41, and his wife Meghan, an actor who grew up in Los Angeles, stepped down as senior members of the royal family and left Britain in 2020. Their departure came amid reports of a feud between the couple and other members of the royal family.

In a 2022 interview , Harry said that he considered the U.S. his new home.

“Home for me, now, for the time being, is in the States,” he said at the time.

In his comments on Wednesday, Trump said he had “a very good relationship” with King Charles III and the late Queen Elizabeth II.

“I’ve known him for a long time. He’s great, great guy,” Trump said of the king.

“And I thought they treated the royal family with great disrespect. I didn’t like it,” the president said of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“I didn’t like the way she acted. I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the queen, to King Charles,” Trump said, referring to Meghan.

Before becoming a member of Britain’s royal family, the “Suits” star had called Trump “divisive” and “misogynistic” during the 2016 presidential race.

Trump has criticized Meghan before, describing her past comments about him as “nasty.”

Trump told reporters at the White House that if he were king, he wouldn’t have welcomed Harry and Meghan back into the fold.

“Maybe I’m different, I wouldn’t have taken them back,” he said.

“If I were in the royal family, I would not have taken them back.”
