Turning Point USA announced that its co-founder Charlie Kirk will be honored at a Sept. 10 event on the Utah Valley University campus, just feet from where he was shot.
The event is titled “Freedom Built to Last” and will feature remarks from Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Sypher, conservative talk show host Glenn Beck and Christian apologist Frank Turek.
“Utah Valley University seeks to foster healing for our community following the assassination of Charlie Kirk,” the university said in a statement sent to Nexstar, The Hill’s parent company.
“While campus operations will be closed that day to provide time and space for reflection, service, and connection, the UCCU Center will remain open. Turning Point USA has engaged Utah Valley University to use the UCCU Center on September 10 for a private event,” they added.
The UCCU center is a five-minute walk from the place where Kirk was assassinated in front of a crowd of students, supporters and Turning Point USA staff.
His wife, Erika Kirk, has continued her husband’s mission of spreading conservatism on college campuses by participating in a nationwide tour entitled “This Is the Turning Point Tour” after Kirk was killed during a stop on the “American Comeback Tour.”
Next month’s event honoring Kirk will kick off the “All-American Comeback Tour,” which will consist of additional stops on college campuses.
“UVU will continue listening, collaborating, and taking the time to thoughtfully support the needs of our campus community,” the university said in a statement ahead of the Sept. 10 event.
Talks are ongoing about holding a consistent memorial for Kirk in future years.
