Gold-colored Trump $1 coins available now on US Mint website
They come in either a 25-coin roll for $61 or a 100-coin bag for $154.50, with an initial limit of two orders per household.
( NewsNation ) — Gold-colored $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump's face are being released Wednesday as part of the United States' 250th anniversary celebrations.
Beginning at 12 p.m. ET, the coins will be available for purchase on the U.S. Mint website . They come in either a 25-coin roll for $61 or a 100-coin bag for $154.50, with an initial limit of two orders per household. The coins contain no actual gold and are mostly copper, with 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel.
The front side of the coin features Trump's portrait with "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "1776 ~ 2026" inscribed around it. The back displays the Presidential Seal, featuring a shield inscribed with "250" in honor of the nation's anniversary.
As part of a "special offering," the U.S. Mint said it placed 250,000 coins with a July 4th mark in the rolls and bags. All the Trump $1 coins serve as both genuine legal tender and collector's items.
"Created to celebrate this historic national milestone, these special circulating dollar coins combine everyday American coinage with a once-in-a-generation anniversary design destined to become a standout addition to modern collections," the U.S. Mint said.
First announced in July , the coins have faced some controversy, partly because living people cannot be placed on US-minted currency. But the Trump administration said they can do it because of a 2020 bill that allows new designs to honor the country's 250th birthday, CBS News reported .
