President Trump congratulated Democrats on their midterm election wins Tuesday night.
Trump, in a call with CBS News , said that his message is “congratulations to the Democrats, and I look forward to working with you for the good of our country.”
He told the outlet that he “wasn’t on the ballot, and there was nothing that could be done about that.”
Democrats won control of the House and Senate Tuesday night, grabbing hold of some key races like the Texas, South Carolina and Kansas Senate seats, among others.
Trump told Fox News that voters just “didn’t like the candidates.”
“They fought hard. They’ve been fighting for a long time,” he said.
He also said he could work with Democrats on “many things.”
Still, he said he felt bad for the Republicans that lost Tuesday night because losing is a “tough thing.”
Earlier Tuesday, Trump said Republicans lost because he wasn’t on the ballot.
“And if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!” he wrote on Truth Social. “Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
In another post he said he would become a “Political Pundit, both good and bad, on the reasons these Candidates won and lost!”
One Democrat — incoming chairman of the House Oversight Committee Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) — shared a succinct statement after it was clear Democrats were winning: “Lawyer up.”
