Trump has mountain of Leavitt replacements, says Scott Jennings ‘is good’

President Trump said Friday he’s never seen so many job applications in his life in response to the opening created by Karoline Leavitt’s decision to leave her post as White House press secretary.

Asked by reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland about whom he was considering to replace Leavitt , Trump declined to give a name but signaled the choice could be difficult.

Pointing to different reporters standing on the tarmac with him, Trump said, “I don’t know, maybe you.”

“I will tell you this, and Karoline will tell you this, I have never seen so many job applications in my life,” he added.

Leavitt, who was standing next to Trump, nodded in agreement, saying “there’s a lot of options.”

The president continued that Leavitt “made that job very glamorous” so “they all want that job; they love that job.”

A reporter asked him if CNN political commentator Scott Jennings was being considered for the position.

“Scott Jennings is good,” the president responded.

Jennings, who has worked on two campaigns for former President George W. Bush and served as an adviser to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), has been CNN’s primary conservative analyst since 2017. He was reportedly being considered for the position in 2024 following Trump’s election win.

In an Aug. 13 appearance on “CNN NewsNight,” Jennings told other panelists that he did not know if he would replace Leavitt.

“But I’ll tell you this: Karoline Leavitt has been maybe the greatest White House press secretary in the last 30 years, at least. She’s been nothing short of brilliant,” he stated. “I don’t know a single Republican in the country who isn’t in awe of and in appreciation of Karoline tonight.”

Leavitt said she was leaving the job to care for her two young children.

“I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House press secretary,” she said earlier this month.

She has been Trump’s only press secretary in his second term. During Trump’s first term, Sean Spicer, now-Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R), Stephanie Grisham and Kayleigh McEnany served in the role.
