President Trump on Sunday continued his pattern of blasting former President Obama, sharing a meme stating that he, not former President Nixon, was the country’s “most corrupt” president.
Trump posted a split screen of Obama and Nixon’s presidential portraits to Truth Social , with the photo including the caption, “One of these men is the most corrupt president in the history of the United States. The other is Richard Nixon.”
The incumbent president has long criticized Obama, his direct Democratic predecessor. Before running for president, Trump falsely claimed that Obama was born in Kenya and not Hawaii.
Obama has recently taken his successor to task regarding his opposition to regulating artificial intelligence companies and the Iran war, saying in June the U.S. was “ worse off ” than prior to the conflict.
“We’ve now fought a war, spent billions and billions of dollars, put an enormous strain on our military, a lot of people have died and it feels like we are back where we were before we started the war, except maybe a little worse off,” the former president told host Craig Melvin on NBC’s “ Today .”
Trump on Sunday compared Obama to Nixon, who resigned in August 1974 amid revelations of his knowledge of the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters, known as the “Watergate” scandal.
Nixon is the only American president to resign from office, while the House has impeached three presidents: Andrew Johnson in 1868, Bill Clinton in 1998 and Trump himself twice, in 2019 and 2021 .
In all four instances, the Senate acquitted the sitting president. The upper chamber has never removed a president from office.
