Speeding truck rams parked vehicles on Rajkot-Morbi highway; 2 killed, 3 hurt

RAJKOT: A late-night halt for tea and a break during travel ended in tragedy on the Rajkot-Morbi highway on Wednesday, when a speeding truck crashed into a parked car and autorickshaw near Hadala village, killing two men and injuring three others.Police identified the deceased as Azizshah Shahmadar, 45, a resident of Manharpara, and Kana Humbal, 24, of Bedi village. Both men were declared dead soon after an ambulance reached the spot. The injured were shifted to Rajkot Civil Hospital.According to police, the car and autorickshaw were parked on the roadside when the truck approached at high speed and crashed into them.Humbal had stopped at Momai Hotel with an acquaintance for tea and refreshments. He was sitting inside the car while his friends had stepped away to buy snacks.Shahmadar, who drove an autorickshaw to support his family, was going to Morbi with his son for a religious function. They halted near the hotel and his son had stepped out to make a purchase when the truck hit the autorickshaw.Humbal was the only brother to five sisters and was related to singers Meera Ahir and Vaishali Ahir.The truck driver fled after the crash.
