Newport woman died after paint can exploded in garden fire
Katie Louise Marshall suffered sever burns to her body as a result of the fire.
A woman died three months after suffering severe burns when a paint canister exploded in a garden fire.
Katie Louise Marshall, 32, of Vaughan Williams Drive, Newport, died at Bristol Royal Infirmary on 24 September.
In June, she put a black bin bag containing rubbish and a paint canister on the fire she had lit in her garden, Gwent Coroner's Court heard.
The canister exploded, and a neighbour raised the alarm. Marshall was initially taken to the Grange Hospital in Cwmbran but then moved to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, after suffering 45-55% burns.
Marshall was transferred to Bristol where she died from bacterial pneumonia caused by inhalation and burns.
Senior coroner for Gwent Caroline Saunders said Marshall's death was "unnatural" and adjourned the hearing.
Saunders said her investigation would look into "the circumstance of the fire and how she obtained her injuries and a narrative of the treatment thereafter".
A full inquest will be held on 9 June 2027.
