MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — West Virginia University, in collaboration with the Big 12, hosted a Women's Empowerment Luncheon Friday at the Hope Coliseum in Morgantown, allowing student-athletes and others to collaborate with community leaders.
The event, part of the Big 12's Fall Tour, travels across the U.S., bringing together community professionals, WVU students, athletes and university staff to hear from a panel of women leaders, including Amy Bush, President of WVU Medicine Golisano Children's Hospital.
Event organizers said that allowing young women to confide in community leaders and ask questions about their potential career paths is essential to building strong connections that can extend far beyond Morgantown.
"In this community, it's always great to elevate female voices and for young women in the community to be able to network with our leaders, for them to be able to see a path," WVU Athletics Marketing Representative Erin Gipson said.
The Big 12 Fall Tour also stopped at Mylan Park Elementary yesterday, giving students and teachers a classroom makeover ahead of the rest of the fall semester.
The next stop on the tour is Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
