Kottayam: DYFI activists on Monday laid siege to the superintendent’s office at Kottayam medical college hospital (MCH), alleging negligence in the death of a woman who was undergoing treatment after hernia surgery. The protest was called off after about two hours, following an assurance that an investigation team, including doctors from outside MCH, would be set up.The activists, who began the siege at 10am, demanded a comprehensive probe into the death of Haseena (49), wife of Hasan Kunju of Puthoorpally in Changanassery. She died at the hospital last FridayHaseena’s family has lodged a complaint with Gandhinagar Police in Kottayam alleging serious negligence by the hospital authorities. According to the complaint, Haseena was given paracetamol and discharged even though her condition deteriorated after surgery. It further alleges that she did not receive the necessary treatment when she was brought back to the hospital in a worsened condition.MCH principal Dr Varghese P Punoose gave the assurance after speaking to the health minister’s office, in the presence of superintendent Tigy Thomas Jacob. He said director of health education would issue an order in this regard.Hospital authorities, however, maintain that Haseena developed an infection after returning home following the surgery and that it caused her death. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Kochi | Silver Rate in Kochi | Bank Holidays in Kochi | Public Holidays in KochiStay updated with the latest Kochi news.
