“Big Brother” Season 28 winner Rick Devens and wife Becca Devens have revealed she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The two shared the news in a joint Instagram video uploaded Oct. 25. “We feel like politicians right now, but we just wanted to let you know some important news because I feel like it’d be weird if we didn’t tell you before I had to go have surgery,” Becca Devens said. “So, Rick won ‘Big Brother.’ And then we came home and I got diagnosed with breast cancer.” Becca Devens continued, “So that sucks. But we caught it early because I do my mammograms like a good girl and I’m going to get a double mastectomy and that’ll be fun.” She said the couple will continue to keep fans updated on her health journey. She added that the next step is to have an MRI on Oct. 27 to confirm the location of the cancer. “If you guys just want to send good vibes and prayers for that, that’s awesome,” she told fans. Rick Devens chimed in and also asked fans to send them love. Becca Devens and her husband said their dog and their two children have been supporting them. “Kids are doing good. Everybody’s OK,” she assured fans. She sarcastically captioned the post “plot twist.” Members of the “Big Brother” and “Survivor” family left uplifting messages, wishing her good health. Rick Devens’ close friend Christian Hubicki, who played with the former news anchor on Season 50 of “Survivor,” wrote, “My best as always to you and your family. You’re the most resilient people I know.” Taylor Brown, who was runner-up on Season 28 of “Big Brother,” said, “Sending love and prayers Ms. Becca.” The official “Big Brother” Instagram account wrote, “We love you mama devens.” Rick Devens expressed his gratitude and left a sweet message for his wife in the comments, too. “Thank you all for the love! Becca’s got this. Luckily she’s the tough one. Also, the funny, charming, smart, good looking one,” he said. Throughout his time in the “Big Brother” house this summer, Rick Devens frequently spoke about how much his wife and their two children mean to him. When he was crowned the winner on Oct. 1, his family immediately joined him on stage, becoming emotional as they celebrated their reunion and his victory. On Oct. 26, Becca Devens provided more details about her diagnosis in another Instagram video. She said she already knew she needed a double mastectomy because in March she had a biopsy on a “little tiny thing” that turned out to be benign. Her latest appointment was a follow-up on the biopsy. “Extensive growth of, I guess, abnormally shaped calcifications and then necrotic tissue were found in my biopsy” she explained. “The type of cancer I have, it is non-invasive. So it’s probably not in my lymph nodes but also they said it’s high grade, which means it grows really fast. And it’s extensively larger than it was in April.” So, she said her doctor “wants it all off.” “And I’m down because my mom had breast cancer and I’m not dealing with that. So if he is going to take lefty, he can take righty too. OK, it’s like a two for one,” she quipped. The point of the MRI, she said, is to confirm the growth hasn’t grown past where her doctor believes it is located. She also shared that she doesn’t have any lumps and the growth is in her duct.
