During a September 10 interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings , Stella, 77, opened up about her older sister's death on August 25 at 80 .

"I haven't heard from anybody in Nashville since my sister passed away," she admitted . "I haven't had one condolence from anyone — anybody that I know, entertainers that I know. Nobody. Not one."

Additionally, Stella speculated on the reason for radio silence. "I'm assuming it might be because of my political, you know, activism on social media," she said. "I don't know."

Just days before Dolly's death, Stella wrote via X about President Donald Trump , "We have a pimple in the White House and the pus in Congress do nothing beneficial for the citizens of this country! Strutting around with his female assistant carrying his diaper bag and soothing his every desire is gross and pathetic! He is an illegitimate President!"

Meanwhile, Dolly refused to publicly discuss politics — although Stella insisted, "She had them."

Stella also told King, "She would never have offended anyone. She never would have done that. She was smarter than me. You know, I tell everything. And I like everybody knowing what I think about it. Not her!"

In a 2020 interview with USA Today , Parton echoed these sentiments. "I don't like to get involved in politics, because first of all, I have as many Republican fans as I do Democrats," she explained. "I don't want to offend anybody, I have a right to myself."

She added, "God gave us free will, America gave us free speech, but you've got to be responsible for anything you say and do."
