He entered to the beats of the dhol, made Korean hearts to the audience and performed in true Punjabi spirit. From Gal Ban Gayee to the fan-favourite Oh Ho Ho Ho, the Prince of Bhangra, Sukhbir, got Delhi grooving as he brought Nykaaland, a three-day beauty fest at NSIC grounds to a close on Sunday. “I wasn’t sure if I should say it but I think the girls have more energy here. Girls, you have to show the boys how to do bhangra! That’s your job today,” he said.A special tribute to his fatherAmid whistles and cheers, Sukhbir blew kisses to the audience. Sharing a special anecdote, he said, “Mere pitaji ne puri umar babaji da kaam kitta hai, kirtan kiya hai, jab tak menu yaad hai. Jo bhi shayari likhi, upar wale ke liye likhi. Chhabbis saal pehle maine apne pitaji se request kari ki mere liye ek gaana likhdo aur agla gaana unhone mere liye likha. This (Sauda Khara Khara) is a song that means more to me than others. Do saal pehle pitaji hume chhod ke chale gaye lekin main unki taraf se yeh aap sab ko dedicate karna chahta hoon. Thank you very much for coming and making this an amazing time for us.”From childhood faves to the stage “Bahut log kehte hain, ‘I’ve been listening to your songs since I was a child. I grew up on them. Main bachpan se sunta aa raha hoon.’ Hum bhi fan hote hain kuch artistes ke, toh main bhi kuch artistes ko bachpan se sunta hua aa raha hoon. There’s one song that was very popular jab main bachha tha. And I got the opportunity to sing the song with the son of the original artiste,” he shared before performing Dowain Jaaniya, which he recorded with H Dhami. The original was sung by Heera Group in 1988. Taking the audience down memory lane, Sukhbir also revisited his Bollywood debut, recalling his first song for Hrithik Roshan. “Mera pehla gaana jo maine Bollywood films ke liye gaaya tha, that was for Hrithik. Let’s see if you remember it,” he said before performing Dhoom. Sukhbir ended his set with another round of Oh Ho Ho Ho before exiting with a knuckle crack, the classic ‘nazar na lage’ gesture for the Delhi crowd.A hit-filled set by the Bombay Rockers A day before Sukhbir took the stage, The Bombay Rockers had set the festive mood with a high-energy performance.
