Belagavi: Chukki Nanjundaswamy will inaugurate the three-day Kittur Utsav on Friday, while chief minister DK Shivakumar will attend the final day on Sunday, MLA Babasaheb Patil said on Thursday. Patil said the festival would be inaugurated by an achiever, on the lines of Mysuru Dasara. He spoke after releasing the invitation and chairing a final preparatory meeting in Kittur, attended by Kittur Development Authority commissioner Santosh Hangal, the tahsildar and other officials. The festival will feature seminars, cultural programmes, sports competitions, musical performances and felicitation of achievers. A cattle fair will be a special attraction this year. Patil said Kittur held a unique place in history for sounding the call for the freedom struggle against the British and the festival should, therefore, be celebrated specially. Of the Rs 5 crore sought from govt for the event, Rs 2 crore had been released, and the remaining Rs 3 crore was expected, he said. Govt had allocated significant funds to Kittur Development Authority and the festival over the past four years.Stay updated with the latest Hubballi news. Download the TOI App.
