Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has spoken about Kashmir’s immense potential as a destination for filmmakers, musicians and artists, describing the Valley as a “beautiful” and “blessed” place. So having an international film festival is commendable and everybody can see the beauty of Kashmir and the vibration of Kashmir. I wish this film festival becomes really famous and a lot of people come here and enjoy the hospitality of the Kashmiri people," he said.Rahman also revealed that his ongoing visit to Kashmir was connected to an advertising project. “I’ve come for an ad. I’ll tell you what it is. We enjoyed shooting the ad, we just finished it," he said.Composer hints at returning for a performanceRahman further indicated that his association with Kashmir could extend beyond his current project. He said discussions are underway for possible future plans, including a live performance in the Valley.“Yes, we have some plans, and we are talking. Hopefully, I want to come and perform here," he said.A R Rahman wants Bollywood to focus on Kashmir's beautyWhen asked whether Bollywood should shoot more films in Kashmir, Rahman agreed that filmmakers should present the region through its natural beauty and peaceful surroundings instead of repeatedly associating it with violence and its troubled past.“That’s a very good point. I think that’s what should happen from now. They should bring the beauty and the peace when you see nature as a positive thing rather than talking about violence or the past. The past is past, and the future is bright," he said.He recalls working with Kashmiri folk singers on RockstarRahman also highlighted the contribution of local artistes and folk music, recalling his own experience of recording Kashmiri singers for ‘Rockstar’.“I think that’s a beautiful suggestion and I would love to. I came here for ‘Rockstar’. I recorded the ladies singing folk songs, and we used it in Rockstar. We want to come and do more things here. We want to come and do more things here," he said.For Rahman, greater collaboration between Bollywood and Kashmiri musicians could open up opportunities to bring the region’s traditional sounds to wider audiences.Rahman hopes Kashmir festival reaches global statureSpeaking about the International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir, the composer said its current beginning could eventually lead to a major international platform. I wish it will grow and grow and become such a great experience. We go to Amsterdam, and we go to London Film Festival and Sundance.
