New fantasy rom-com Wicker, starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, has sparked a flood of viral memes and tongue-in-cheek jokes on social media ahead of its cinema release.

The film tells the tale of a lonely, ostracised fisherwoman living in a medieval village who hires a basketmaker to mould her a new partner made entirely out of wicker.

Speaking to the BBC at the film's BFI London Film Festival premiere, lead star Olivia Colman admitted she was taken aback by the online frenzy surrounding the film.

"No, literally this has never happened for anything I've done before," she said. "But you put Alexander Skarsgård in an interesting outfit, and everyone is looking."
