Selma Blair is speaking out on camera for the first time after she allegedly assaulted crew members on a Delta flight to New York City's John F. Kennedy Airport on Oct. 11

" I'm sorry that it's taken this long," Blair said in a video posted to Instagram on Friday, Oct. 30

The actress appeared in court on Oct. 12 to plead not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault, and was subsequently released on bail

Selma Blair is apologizing after her Oct. 11 arrest.

The actress, 54, fought back tears as she addressed her followers on Instagram on Friday, Oct. 30, speaking on camera for the first time about the events that led to her arrest on assault charges following a Delta flight to New York City's John F. Kennedy Airport.

The actress appeared in court on Oct. 12 and pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault; she was released on bail.

"I know I've been quiet for a couple weeks since October 11th," Blair told her followers. "And you deserve to hear from me directly. And I'm sorry that it's taken this long."

Blair said that since there is a "legal matter going on," her lawyers have asked her to keep quiet.

"And I take this very seriously. What I can tell you, though, is very simple, and the truest thing I know about myself, in that not one day ever have I intended to hurt or frighten anyone a day in my life," she said.

"And so, to the people that I disappointed, that I hurt, that I frightened, alarmed. I am so sorry," continued Blair. "And to the people that have written, or called, or sent wishes of love or caring, it has meant everything to me and my son, who is my world, as a scout who is also okay. So right now, I'm going to be taking care of my health and my son, and thinking of you all with gratitude and love."

Blair's comments follow a statement she released to PEOPLE via a representative claiming that "the public account of what happened to Selma aboard a flight to New York has been built almost entirely on a police statement and a decade-old headline."

Blair is accused of punching a flight attendant and biting another crew member during the flight. She is also alleged to have assaulted a nurse and a Port Authority Police officer.

Blair allegedly kicked a registered nurse in the chest at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center at approximately 2 a.m. on Oct. 12, while the nurse was assisting with Blair's transport for further medical treatment, according to according to a criminal court affidavit sworn by Port Authority Police Officer Dynosoph Telisma. The nurse reported substantial pain to her chest, and was granted an order of protection.

Her previous statement alleged that she " experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."

Her attorney Shawn Barnes told the New York Post and the New York Daily News that it was "not an intentional assault" as she had missed doses of her medication and had maintained a busy work schedule.

A source close to the actress previously told PEOPLE that she is embarrassed and upset following the incident.

"Managing her MS is complicated and it can be a lot to handle" said the source. "She makes mistakes. She's not perfect. But she's really trying to manage her health and keep up with work and commitments."
