'How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days' is coming back. Here's where 7 other 2000s rom-com revivals stand.

After a real chick flick drought in recent years, fans of the genre are being treated to a whole slate of 2000s romantic-comedy sequels. The latest? The iconic How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days . Paramount Pictures is in early development on a follow-up to the 2003 movie, a source close to the project has confirmed to Deadline .

Hudson is producing alongside Stacey Sher, while Paramount and the filmmakers hope that Hudson and Matthew McConaughey will reprise their roles. However, no cast members are attached, and the project is still seeking a screenwriter, according to reports.

In the original movie, magazine writer Andie Anderson (Hudson) dates advertising executive Ben Barry (McConaughey) for an article about how to drive a man away in 10 days, unaware that he has bet he can make her fall in love with him in the same period. As is the rom-com way, they're bound for love, and their competing schemes become complicated when real feelings develop.

The film was a big hit, grossing over $178 million globally against a reported $50 million budget. Critics were less enthusiastic, with the film currently holding a 42% rating on Rotten Tomatoes , but audiences responded far more favorably. McConaughey said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that it's the film that provides him with the most residual income.

"I think it's probably my favorite rom-com I've done, and a lot of people love that rom-com," McConaughey told host Josh Horowitz earlier this month . "And it still pays the best mailbox money of any film I've ever done. By far. By lengths."

No release date has been announced for the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days sequel — and it remains to be seen whether Andie and Ben invested in a second "love fern" and managed to keep it alive — but several other 2000s rom-com revivals are also being developed or discussed.

A third installment (after 2004's The Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement ) is in development, with Anne Hathaway returning as teen-turned-princess Mia Thermopolis. Whether Chris Pine, Héctor Elizondo and Heather Matarazzo reprise their roles remains to be seen, but we know for certain that Julie Andrews won't be back .
