Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing another major disagreement over what their future should look like, with the Duchess of Sussex reportedly unwilling to make Britain their permanent home.
Just months after returning to the country with hopes of rebuilding family connections, the couple is said to have very different priorities.
While Prince Harry wants to use the move as an opportunity to repair his relationship with the Royal Family, Meghan Markle is keen to revive her Hollywood career and regain the independence she believes she lost.
Meghan Markle Longs To Return To The US After Failing To Secure Royal Acceptance
According to Heatworld Magazine , Meghan has become uncomfortable with life in Britain after the couple's return failed to bring the acceptance they had hoped for.
Their recent public appearances have attracted attention, but they have also faced criticism, leaving the Duchess questioning whether staying in the country is worth the personal and professional sacrifices.
An insider claimed Meghan feels disappointed by how things have unfolded, especially with their frosty relationship with the royal family .
"Meghan's deeply unhappy in the UK, and feels embarrassed about how things have turned out," the source told the publication . They added that she believes the family has faced further public scrutiny despite making an effort to reconnect with Britain and the royals.
"If the royals don't want them, Meghan wants to go back to America, pursue her Hollywood ambitions and build a life where she doesn't need their approval," the source shared. "She wants Harry to understand the difference between leaving the door open to his family and allowing their entire future to revolve around whether they eventually decide to let them back in."
The Duchess Reportedly Suggesting She And Harry Spend Some Time 'Living Separate Lives' As She Pursues Her Goals
The Duchess is said to be considering a return to California, where she hopes to focus on her entertainment career without having to seek approval from the royals.
According to the publication, the insider noted, "Meghan wants to build the career she believes she's capable of having – she doesn't see why she should sacrifice those opportunities."
They continued, "She's told Harry she wants them to compromise, rather than expect her to keep bending. If he wants to remain in Britain, Meghan's suggested they spend significant periods living separate lives in different countries – but she doesn't see that as meaning their marriage has to suffer."
The possibility of reprising her role as Rachel Zane in "Suits" could make that prospect of a US return even more appealing. She has reportedly received an offer worth £3.75 million [$5 million] for a potential reunion, giving her another reason to consider returning to acting.
The insider explained that Meghan sees the opportunity as a chance to rebuild her career, saying: "Meghan feels there might be a real opportunity to get back into it."
"She's wondering whether this could be her chance to reclaim her career and finally prove that she can succeed in Hollywood on her own terms," the insider added.
Prince Harry and Meghan were given a "telling" sign the royals are done with them.
Prince Harry's Hopes Of Reuniting With His Family Clash With The Duchess 's Future Plans
Harry, meanwhile, appears more invested in making their return to Britain work. His recent comments about wanting to restore family relationships have renewed attention on the possibility of reconciliation with his father and brother.
The Duke has made it clear that he does not want the rift to remain unresolved, even though the path forward remains uncertain.
The difference in their priorities has reportedly become a source of tension. "Harry wants to put down roots, while Meghan wants the freedom to move between two worlds," the source said. She believes he should be able to maintain contact with his relatives without requiring her to put her own ambitions on hold.
However, the source suggested Harry is struggling with the possibility of spending significant periods away from his wife.
"Harry's understandably devastated by Meghan's mindset and desperately wants her to give Britain a chance," the insider claimed. He is said to fear that living in separate countries for extended periods could put pressure on their marriage.
Despite the disagreement, Meghan does not view a temporary long-distance arrangement as a threat to their relationship. For Harry, however, finding a balance between his family ties and his marriage may prove difficult.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Hollywood Ambitions Face A Setback
Although Meghan is keen to return to the entertainment industry, the couple's production ambitions have encountered several challenges.
Page Six reports that two of their Netflix film projects, "Meet Me at the Lake" and "The Wedding Date," remain in development, with no apparent progress since March.
An industry source cautioned that this does not necessarily mean the projects are in trouble, explaining that film adaptations can take considerable time to develop.
"This is all part of the process. There are a lot of steps," the insider said. Still, the lack of visible movement adds uncertainty to the couple's plans for building a successful production company.
The situation has also been complicated by the departure of Chantal Pysnik, Archewell Productions' longtime head of nonfiction.
She was among the company's earliest hires and oversaw the production of the couple's Netflix documentary "Harry & Meghan." Her exit follows earlier departures among senior staff and a reported reduction in the company's workforce.
However, the Sussexes are said to still retain the support of Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, with a source telling the news outlet that "Ted is still 100 percent behind them." Nevertheless, the combination of stalled projects and staff changes raises questions about how quickly their Hollywood plans can move forward.
Prince William And Kate Middleton Have No Plans To Rush Into Reconciliation
While Harry hopes his return to Britain will help repair his relationship with Prince William, the Prince and Princess of Wales are said to be taking their time.
A source close to the couple told People that they are not prepared to make an immediate response to the Sussexes' relocation or turn the situation into a public discussion.
"They are watching this space. It's private — they don't feel the need to say anything or demonstrate anything outwardly," the source explained. The insider also suggested that rebuilding the brothers' relationship would require patience, adding that "there is a deep sense of betrayal."
There has been little indication of progress between William and Harry, despite the Duke's recent efforts to reconnect with other members of the family.
Harry previously told the BBC , "I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore." However, his relationship with William remains particularly strained, with one source describing it as "so broken."
