Shailene Woodley's stylist has responded to the harsh criticism that the actress received for her Emmy Awards outfit — a periwinkle halter top, gold sequined pants and long burgundy gloves — created by Balenciaga creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli.

"Love or hate something fine but it's an opinion and it can even be a conversation but being super rude and mean and taking glee from it, well that says a lot more about the mouths it's coming from," Karla Welch wrote on Threads Tuesday alongside a black heart emoji.

On Wednesday, the stylist, who has worked with Olivia Wilde, Elisabeth Moss and Justin and Hailey Bieber, also posted a photo to Instagram of Woodley's couture look. The image was preceded by a slide saying "Trigger Warning."

Woodley won her first career Emmy, taking home the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Paradise at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 6. At that ceremony, she wore a Brandon Maxwell-designed white minidress.

For Monday's Emmys telecast, Woodley showed up on the red carpet in an ensemble that drew criticism online , including comparisons to an outfit chosen by ChatGPT.

"Shailene Woodley appears to have played closet roulette," Yahoo's Kerry Justich wrote .

Woodley wore the outfit onstage to present the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series.

At one point inside the Peacock Theater, Woodley was photographed wearing a black blazer alongside Nicole Kidman, her Big Little Lies costar.

For Disney's Emmys afterparty, Woodley showed up sans gloves in a vintage T-shirt promoting the 1986 film Home of the Brave . But she still had on those gold sequined pants.
