Around five decades of memories, music and milestones came together in Juhu on Monday evening as the road leading to the late singer-composer Bappi Lahiri’s residence was named Sangeetkar Bappi Lahiri Marg. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the road in the presence of the Lahiri family, members of the film and music fraternity, and well-wishers, honouring a musician whose distinctive sound continues to resonate with audiences. For the family, the occasion was deeply personal. Bappi Lahiri’s wife, Chitrani Lahiri, son Bappa Lahiri and his wife Taneesha, grandsons Krrish and Shivaay, daughter Reema Lahiri Bansal, son-in-law Govind Bansal and grandson Swastik Bansal, popularly known as Rego B, were present at the ceremony.Speaking exclusively to Bombay Times, Bappa Lahiri said, “My dad was just 15 when he came to Mumbai. He would always say that Kolkata was his janmabhoomi and Maharashtra his karmabhoomi. We have lived in this house and this lane for more than four decades now, and almost all of his hits were created here. The mural I designed for this road combines a record and musical waves, depicting his musical journey.”His sister Reema echoed the family's pride and emotion at the tribute. “This is a big honour for our dad, who was a legend. We are all very emotional, but also proud and happy. My grandparents, Aparesh and Bansari Lahiri, are also blessing us today. Even now, my father's hit music can be heard everywhere, whether in Dhurandhar or Baaghi,” she said.Known for pioneering a distinctive blend of disco, pop and Indian film music, Bappi Lahiri enjoyed a career spanning decades, creating songs that became enduring favourites across generations. His flamboyant persona and signature gold accessories made him as recognisable as his music, earning him a unique place in popular culture. The ceremony saw several familiar faces from the film and music industries come together to pay tribute to the composer. Among those present were Jeetendra, Jackie Shroff, Udit Narayan, Ashoke Pandit, Ila Arun, Poonam Dhillon, Rohit Roy, Alisha Chinai, Anu Malik, Rajat Bedi, Sofie Choudhary, Lalit Pandit and Neetu Chandra.Jackie Shroff’s presence also drew attention as it came a day after a firing incident involving his son, actor Tiger Shroff. For the Lahiri family, the newly named road is more than a civic landmark. It is a tribute rooted in the neighbourhood that witnessed the making of the composer's music and the life he built in Mumbai; a lasting reminder of an artist whose melodies continue to find new listeners.Get the latest Bollywood & Entertainment News, and more.
