Prince Harry can't let go of his final phone call with Princess Diana .

Nearly 30 years after his mom and her boyfriend Dodi Fayed were killed in a car collision in August 1997, the Duke of Sussex emphasized that he still regrets not giving her more time on his final phone call with her.

"I have spoken very openly about one of my biggest regrets is that last phone call I had with her," Harry told GQ in an interview published Oct. 20 . "If I'd known it was the last call with her, how different that conversation would've been. And I'm the one that has to live with that."

Indeed, as Harry—dad to Archie , 7, and Lilibet , 3, with wife Meghan Markle —recalled of the quick phone call he and brother Prince William had with Diana before the fatal crash in Paris, "All I wanted to do was go off and run and play with my cousins."

The 42-year-old is not the only one who has expressed regret for their final moments with Diana. Similarly, William has previously noted it was just as devastating for him.

"Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say goodbye, you know 'see you later'... If I'd known now obviously what was going to happen I wouldn't have been so blase about it and everything else," the Prince of Wales, who was 15 when Diana died while Harry was 12, shared in the 2017 documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy. "That phone call sticks in my mind quite heavily."

In the same documentary, Harry emphasized how heavily the loss of their mother at such a young age weighs on both he and his brother.

There's not a day that William and I don't wish that she was still around," he said, "and we wonder what kind of a mother she would be now, and what kind of a public role she would have, and what a difference she would be making."

Meanwhile, Diana's other loved ones have also reflected on how trivial their final moments with her seemed. In his new memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister , Charles Spencer admitted that his final memory with the late Princess of Wales was on her 36th birthday, when they happened to be dining at the same restaurant weeks before her death.

"Neither of us had any idea that the other was going to be at the evening," he wrote. "We had only that brief chat, never to see each other again."

While her time with her loved ones was entirely too short, Diana made an extraordinary impact during her life. Keep reading for a look at how she redefined royalty…
