Jonathan Taylor Thomas was detained in Los Angeles this week.

According to booking records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department obtained by Entertainment Weekly , the Home Improvement star, whose real name is Jonathan Taylor Weiss, was detained at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station on Monday, Sept. 21, and released the following day.

Lost Hills deputies were patrolling the area of Westlake Boulevard and Townsgate Road in Westlake Village and saw a vehicle stopped at the intersection with a green light blocking traffic on Sept. 21, a press release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department shared with Entertainment Weekly alleges.

"Deputies pulled alongside the vehicle to see if the driver needed assistance. Deputies noticed the driver was acting odd and appeared to be intoxicated. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle for the violation and conducted a driving under the influence investigation."

"While field sobriety tests were being performed on the driver, the passenger (Jonathan Weiss) appeared intoxicated, continually exited the vehicle and approached the deputies, distracting them from their investigation," the statement continued, noting that as deputies attempted to detain Weiss for "obstruction and public intoxication," the former actor "kicked a deputy in the stomach."

He was then "arrested, transported, and booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station on the aforementioned charges." "The driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol."

The statement concluded that the case will be submitted to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration. TMZ was the first to report the news.

Thomas portrayed Randy Taylor on the 1990s sitcom and also voiced young Simba in the 1994 Disney animated film The Lion King . Other acting credits include Man of the House (1995), Wild America (1997), and I'll Be Home for Christmas (1998).

After years of being a child star, Thomas shifted his focus to his education, attending Harvard, Columbia, and St. Andrew's University in Scotland. "I've been going to school, and traveling quite a bit, getting to read a lot of books I've wanted to for quite some time," he told Entertainment Weekly in 2011 , over a decade after Home Improvement wrapped.

"I think at this point, I'd eventually like to work behind the camera. That's not to say I would never act again, I'm not quite sure to be honest. I still have a passion for TV and film could see myself working in it."

Though he took a step back from acting, Thomas has appeared in episodes of Smallville , The Simpsons , 8 Simple Rules , and Veronica Mars .

"I never took the fame too seriously," Taylor told PEOPLE in 2013. "It was a great period in my life, but it doesn't define me. When I think back on the time, I look at it with a wink. I focus on the good moments I had, not that I was on a lot of magazine covers."

Per IMDb, his most recent acting credit reunited him with Tim Allen , appearing in 4 episodes of Last Man Standing, with his final appearance in 2015.

In July, Thomas reunited with his Home Improvement costars Patricia Richardson and Taran Noah Smith for a picture, which Richardson posted on Instagram with the caption "My other boys."
