A royal expert cautioned Meghan Markle that she is "playing with fire" after she issued a direct response to King Charles' declaration on their royal status.

The King formally reiterated that the Sussexes would remain "private citizens" upon their return to Britain. His Majesty released the announcement ahead of a reported Ravec meeting this week. The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures handles decisions on royal security.

In response, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle admitted that they were "a little surprised not to have been told in advance."

Former Conservative MP Louise Mensch hit back, claiming that the Sussex camp had "no right to be notified" in advance. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she wrote: "Nobody wanted [Meghan's] opinion on His Majesty's sovereign decisions. Saying she was 'surprised' is a public protest against those decisions … The King will not tolerate competing press releases for long."

According to Ms. Mensch, ongoing challenges to the monarch's authority could force the King into taking drastic action. She further noted, "He can remove Harry's status as a prince of the UK with the stroke of a pen, and I believe he would."
