King Charles was reportedly left worried and in agony after failing to connect with his longtime friend Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who has withdrawn from the spotlight due to a Parkinson's disease diagnosis.
Queen Camilla is mourning many losses, including the deaths of her doctor, Hannah Cain, and author Lord Jeffrey Archer.
According to Page Six , Dr. Cain was killed while throwing a sleepover for her three children and their friends on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026. The outlet reported that she was found dead at her home and appeared to have suffered "blunt force injury to the right side of her head." Dr. Cain also reportedly sustained an injury "that could be suggestive of compression of the neck."
On October 7, prosecutors confirmed that Dr. Cain's husband, Mark Cain, has been arrested and charged with her murder. Authorities have not yet identified a motive, and Detective Insp Alix Wright confirmed that police are "in the very early stages of this investigation, working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the woman's death."
Still, Wright urged people to come forward if they believe that "they may have information that could help our investigation."
Sources told The Sun that Camilla and King Charles have been informed of Dr. Cain's death, but they have yet to release a statement about the tragedy.
Camilla is also grieving the death of Lord Jeffrey Archer, a former politician and bestselling author who died "suddenly and peacefully at his home" on Monday, October 5. He was 86.
In a statement per Hello! , the Queen said, "Seldom does an author get to live a life as rich, varied and colourful as any of the characters in their books, or with as many surprising plot twists."
"While he was not without flaw, his friends will recall him as an irrepressible life force through all the many differing chapters of his life," the statement continued. "Wherever the next page turns to, I trust there will be champagne and shepherd's pie in abundance."
Camilla's recent heartbreak comes amid many reports claiming Charles was in "agony" after a devastating health update. According to RadarOnline , the King was left worried after failing to connect with his longtime friend Sir Ranulph Fiennes, an explorer who's withdrawn from the spotlight amid his Parkinson's disease diagnosis.
"The King cares enormously about Ran and was genuinely troubled and in a bit of agony when he heard what was happening," an insider explained. "This isn't somebody he knows casually – there is a friendship stretching back decades. It's especially distressing with Charles fighting cancer. He has developed the feeling that he wants no one in pain."
The source noted that Charles' "instinct was simply to reach out privately, express his concern and ask whether there was anything he could do." However, not being able to "establish contact has been incredibly upsetting."
"For somebody of the King's position to make a personal effort like that and then find the door effectively closed was difficult," they added. "His concern has always been for his friend's welfare."
Anton Bowring, also an explorer, reportedly reached out to Buckingham Palace sometime in 2025 and revealed that Fiennes was "in a very poor state." Charles' then-equerry, William Thornton, allegedly told Bowring that the King "was most concerned" and wanted to write to Fiennes and his family to offer help. However, Fiennes' wife, Louise Millington-Cotes, turned down the request because she "apparently had issues with their personal information being shared."
