Elon Musk 's ex-wife Justine Wilson opened up about her experience during their relationship.

In Alex Gibney's new documentary Musk , which is set to be released on Oct. 16, Wilson claimed that the Tesla founder, 55, referred to the mothers of his 14 children as "breeders." Wilson, who was married to Musk from 2000 to 2008 and welcomed six children with him, said that for the tech mogul, "the breeders are interchangeable."

Elsewhere in the documentary, Wilson, 54, claimed that Musk told her that he was the "alpha" in their relationship while they were dancing at their wedding. She also credited her ex-husband for teaching her the meaning of the term "gaslighting" because of the way he treated her.

"I learned the term 'gaslighting' through my relationship with Elon," Wilson said in the documentary, noting that Musk would make her feel "insignificant" in their marriage.

Wilson and the Tesla founder are parents to twins Vivian and Griffin and triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian. They also shared son Nevada Alexander, who died at 10 weeks old.

Vivian, who is transgender, is referenced in the film. Musk previously said that he lost his daughter to the "woke mind virus."

In the documentary, Wilson said that her ex cut off Vivian's health insurance after she came out as trans and claimed he has "never tried to repair things" with his daughter. She added, "It's not in his nature."

However, Wilson alleged that Elon told her to tell Vivian that "I'll always love her."

Musk himself did not participate in the making of the documentary. In 2023, he denounced the doc as a "hit piece" on X. Responding in another post , Gibney wrote, "How would you know?"

The businessman's attorney Alex Spiro also threatened legal action over the new documentary, alleging that the film falsely suggests Musk manipulated the 2024 presidential election . Spiro sent Gibney a letter ahead of the documentary's release, PEOPLE has learned.

In the letter, Spiro claims Musk's legal team repeatedly attempted to contact Gibney and requested an opportunity to respond to the film's reporting, but alleges that the filmmakers "have refused to engage." Spiro also accuses the filmmakers of allegedly approaching the project with a predetermined conclusion about Musk.

"This project did not begin as an inquiry," Spiro wrote. "It began with a conclusion."

In response, a spokesperson for the production company behind the film, Jigsaw, defended Gibney's work.

"Alex Gibney's films are consistently recognized for their in-depth, fact-driven explorations of influential figures and corporations, coupled with his bold and engaging directorial style," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson for the documentary's production company did not specifically respond to Spiro's criticism about how Starlink was represented.

"The right to engage in open debate and fact-based examinations of powerful public figures is protected by the First Amendment — something that should be recognized and defended by all Americans, including the associates of Elon Musk, who has proclaimed himself to be a 'free speech absolutist,' " the spokesperson said.

In April 2025, a report from the Wall Street Journal shared that Musk views his children as a "legion," a word that refers to a military unit used by the Roman army that consisted of thousands of soldiers .

"To reach legion-level before the apocalypse, we will need to use surrogates," the SpaceX and Tesla CEO allegedly texted Ashley St. Clair while she was pregnant with their child, who was born in 2025 . (In another nod to Rome, the newspaper reported that their son is named Romulus , who, according to legend , founded the city with his twin brother Remus, then murdered him after an argument.)

The newspaper also alleged in its report that Musk has used X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter that he purchased in 2022, to try and find more women to have his babies.

In addition to his six children with Wilson and one with St. Clair, Musk also welcomed seven children with two other women. In 2020, two years after Musk and singer Grimes were first linked, the two announced the arrival of their first child, X Æ A-12, together. The former couple share two more children, daughter Exa Dark Sideræl and son Techno Mechanicus.

A few weeks prior to the arrival of their second child, the tech CEO also secretly fathered Strider and Azure with Zilis , an executive at one of his companies, Neuralink, in November 2021, according to court documents published by Business Insider . The pair then welcomed daughter Arcadia in February 2024. Zilis announced that she and Musk had secretly welcomed their fourth child together , son Seldon Lycurgus, in 2025.
